Sunday Stealing: Through the Looking Glass

Good morning and welcome to the September 11 edition of Sunday Stealing, the meme where the questions are stolen, but we tell you who we stole them from so it's really more like borrowing.

We found this gem from a “We Follow Pics” user Alice Wells. We wish we could tell you more about Alice.

Sunday Stealing: The Alice Through the Looking Glass Meme

If your life was a book, what would be its title?  I Carried a Watermelon, of course.  What else would it be?

Who is/was the weirdest person in your life?  I'm giving that honor to a cousin of mine that is just so....smarmy (not to mention judgmental, argumentative, condescending, and a know-it-all).  I hate to even be in the same room with him.

What is a special thing that someone once did for you? When I was a kid, my dad's employer paid for me to attend an exclusive private school.  It was a school for the very rich and had a serious prep-school thing going on.  I studied Latin in elementary school for cripes sake.  When I left the school and returned to public school I was a good 2-3 years ahead of my peers so went into advanced classes for the rest of my academic career.  It was really a great school with fantastic teachers.  I remember more about my time there and what I learned than I do even of my later years in public school.

If you could erase someone off the planet, who would it be?  I wouldn't choose anyone.  I don't hate anyone enough to want to erase their existence.  Now, if someone hurt the ones I love...I might feel differently, at least for a little while, but I hope I'd be able to find it in me to forgive them.  Hate's not a good thing...it only hurts the hater.

What’s a big goal that you have?  I want to add a large room on to the front of the house.  It would be the living room and the current living room would become a dining room/library/office space.

If you could time travel and meet yourself at 16, what would you tell yourself?  When you get to college, buckle down and study, don't be the party girl.

If it were the last day of your life, how would you spend it? I think just hanging out in some beautiful location with the people I love, enjoying the world and hopefully giving them some things to remember about me.

If you could meet any celebrity, who would it be and why?  I am honestly just not that into the whole celebrity thing. I can't think of anyone in that category that I'm dying to meet.

What is one thing that you would never do that others you know have done?  Make excuses for my kids. I know some good people whose kids have made some very bad life choices and they make excuse after excuse for them and are just the biggest enablers I have ever seen.  They would be doing the child a service if they would stop making those excuses, handing them whatever they want, and riding in to rescue them from the consequences at ever turn.

What is one romance depicted in film that you’d love to experience?  The one in While You Were Sleeping.  Bill Pullman just melts me in that role.

Describe yourself in just one sentence. An ordinary woman trying to live each day the best I can with God's help.

Who is the most beautiful person on earth?  How can I answer that?  We're all beautiful in some way and I believe real beauty is in the heart, not on the surface.  A plain person with a beautiful spirit is much more attractive than a physically perfect person with a miserable personality.

What was the best experience in your life?  It was definitely accepting Jesus as my Savior.  That has totally changed my life and path for the better.  I would have scoffed at that before it happened, but it's true.  I have hope, peace, and joy that aren't dependent on anything in this life.  It changes everything.

If you could rule the world, what would you change?  I would rule according to the 10 Commandments.  I wouldn't enforce the first 3, because a relationship with God is something you have to choose to do of your own free will, but the rest.... just make good sense.
  • Remember the Sabbath and to keep it holy.  One day a week of rest just makes sense.
  • Honor your parents.  Remember what the world was like when we respected our elders and each other?
  • Don't murder anyone.  D'uh.
  • Don't betray your marriage or be part of anyone else betraying theirs.  Commitment to our marriages and a desire to take the time and effort to work through issues would strengthen society as a whole.
  • Don't take stuff that isn't yours.
  • Don't lie and slander people.  In other words, if you don't know it with absolute certainty, don't run around spewing hateful stuff about people.
  • Don't be jealous of what someone else has.  If you want it, work hard to get it.  But learn to be content where you are with what you have.
I would also encourage that whole "love one another" thing. Love is not a feeling, it is a decision to take care of another. It's a choice you make daily...and you can do it without actually liking the other person or agreeing with their choices and beliefs.  Wouldn't it be great if the world practiced that?

Where were you when you heard the news of 9/11? At home by myself.  Things around here got pretty crazy because we are less than an hour's drive from where Flight 93 went down and many around here saw it fly over and recognized it was in distress.  I remember calling my husband at work to tell him what was happening in the morning and he and his crew didn't know about it.  Then he called in the afternoon when he left work and asked how things were going, if they had got the fires put out, etc.  When I told him the Towers were gone, he couldn't wrap his mind around it and didn't believe me at first.

  1. I was so happy Bill Pullman got that role in While You Were Sleeping. He was usually the guy who loses the girl. How nice that he got to be the romantic one.

  3. I don't think all parents deserve to be honored. Mine didn't. They were horrible, hurtful people who should never have married and never had children. So I would have to disagree with you on that particular commandment. My husband watches 9/11 things now that I do not - shows like what are on today. Like you said on my blog, our experiences are different because he heard about it and did not see it happen in real time. It is very different to watch it happen live on TV than to see the replays.

    1. I can understand where you are coming from. My parents weren't horrible, but they weren't great...especially my dad. I always thought it was just me that thought he was controlling and did a number on me emotionally but my mom has started to say things in the last couple of years about how controlling he was with her. There are exceptions to some rules. Horrible parents would be an exception, but in general, I think the world was a better place when we showed respect not just to our parents, but to all of our elders and all people in general...including ourselves.
