The Movie Nut's Meme - Sunday Stealing

Welcome to Sunday Stealing!  We Found this gem from the author of the blogDefiant Success. She calls herself Movie Nut 14 and posts just about film and the actors that we either love or hate. She does do the occasional meme or survey, provided, of course if it’s about movies. And she writes the questions herself. We noticed that quite a few bloggers stole these from her and now, so have we. We stole two of hers that we made one and reworded a bit for constancy’s sake. We hope that you will enjoy the meme as much as I will enjoy stoppingwriting this bit.

Cheer to all of us thieves!!

The Movie Nut's Meme

What was your first movie-going experience without your parents? I really have no idea.  When I was a kid the theater in town had Saturday afternoon shows aimed at kids.  There were cartoons, newsreels, probably some Three Stooges, and a movie or two.  Sometimes there were costumed characters on stage between features.  Parents thought nothing of dropping kids off and coming back for them when the show was over.

Do you still buy DVDs or Blu-Rays (or do you just stream them)?  I still buy Blu-Ray discs.  We have quite a few 3-D movies, too, as our main TV is 3-D capable.

What is your guilty pleasure movie?  What about it works for you?  Well, you all know I love Dirty Dancing so how about another one for a change.  I love The Great Outdoors.  It's got John Candy and Dan Aykroyd.  It's got a fairly good soundtrack.  It's got really cheesy humor.  It's got a giant, bald-headed, bare-bottomed killer bear.  Anyone who has ever been on vacation with relatives can identify with it.  And best of all, it brings back memories of when my kids were small and watching it together was a favorite way to pass a rainy or scorching hot summer afternoon.

You have compiled a list of your top 100 movies.  Which movies do you like, but would not make the list.  The Blind Side, Fast & Furious, Every Which Way But Loose, Beer for My Horses, Ernest Scared Stupid....

Which movie(s) do you compulsively watch over and over?  What makes it so great?  Twister and any other movie about tornadoes.  Tornadoes scare the poop out of me, but I can't get enough of them in movies.  It's a morbid fascination.

Classic(s) you're embarrassed to admit you haven't seen yet.  Gone With the Wind.

Do you have any movie posters hanging on your wall?  If yes, which ones and why?  No movie posters.

Tell us about a movie that you are passionate about.  Other than those already mentioned I don't know that I'm "passionate" about any.  I am pretty enthusiastic about a genre.  I love Christmas movies and the cheesier and campier they are, the more I like them.

What is a movie you vow to never watch?  Why?  The Amityville Horror.  I loathe horror movies, for one thing, but I read the book when I was 13 or 14 and scared the bejeebers out of myself.  I had weird dreams and other stuff (that may or may not have been my imagination) going on for weeks.  No way am I ever watching the movie.  I've seen parts of a show about the movie and it scared me so, yeah, not watching it.

Tell us about a movie that literally left you speechless.  There have been two.  Blackhawk Down was pretty hard to watch because I went to school with one of the men who was killed.  Watching something like that and knowing that someone you know went through it...it was brutal.  The other movie was Windtalkers, the movie about the Navajo Codetalkers that served in the Pacific theater during WWII.  My uncle worked with them and served in the Pacific. Seeing that and knowing he went through very similar things was tough, too.

What's a movie that you always recommend?  Little Women, the one with Elizabeth Taylor.

Who is an actor you always watch, no matter how crappy the movie?  Tommy Lee Jones, Harrison Ford, Tom Hanks

Who is an actor you don't get the appeal for?  Why don't you like them? I totally don't get the appeal of the actors in the Twilight movies.  They are pale, skinny, and to my tastes, not that good looking and come on....sparkling vampires??

Who is an actor, living or dead, you'd love to meet?  Why do they intrigue you?  I think it would be interesting to meet John Wayne.  As for why, I guess just because I grew up on his movies and he's so iconic, so larger than life.  It would be interesting to see what he was really like.

Sexiest actor/actress you've seen. (Picture required)  Okay, my choice isn't really mainstream, but it's Kyle Chandler, who played Coach Eric Taylor on Friday Night Lights.  He was also in The Wolf of Wallstreet and Zero Dark Thirty. He's kind of old-school to me, like Cary Grant or something.  He just does it for me, okay?

Okay, you are casting a movie, pick four or five actors you'd hire to be in it and why we'd love them together.  Mark Wahlberg, Ben Stiller, Robert de Niro, and Dwayne Johnson.  I think that combo would be wickedly funny together.

Who are your favorite actor pairing of all time?  Abbot & Costello.  I LOVE those guys!

Have you ever watched movies from a decade that was before you were born?  If so, which decade is your favorite?  I really like the old comedies, as I mentioned in the previous question, but I don't know what decade those are from.  I also like the big Hollywood epics of the 50s (Think Cleopatra, Ben Hur, etc.).

If you were to be in a movie, would you rather play the hero, villain, or anti-hero?  Why?  I'd want to be the hero and do things to make life better for people.

  2. Little Women is my favorite classic book. I've read it many times and I've seen the new version of the movie and like it, but there's just something about the older version. And Kyle...oh, sweet heaven, he's a cutie.

  3. I opted out of Stealing today. Seemed like it would take me a long time to think of my answers and get them written. You did great! I enjoyed your take on the movies and agree with nearly all of them!! Happy Sunday!

    1. Thanks. I very nearly threw in the towel last night. I struggled with answering these more than I did last week's questions.

  4. I also haven't seen GWTW! I say that the Carol Burnett show ruined it for me. ;-) When I was on the bus from NYC to Portland, ME, they played the Great Outdoors! I hadn't seen it in forever but it was still funny.

    1. I love comedy so I liked what Carol Burnett did to it. I will never forget her wearing the dress made out of the drapes with the curtain rod still in it!

  5. I've never seen that version of Little Women. I also have seen *most* of GWTW but not all of it. I liked your answer to the question about the movie that left you speechless.

  6. It's the best version of Little Women!
As for GWTW...I think it's the length that puts me off. It's been on television a few times and back in the days of video stores ours carried it, but I just couldn't commit a whole day.

  8. While reading all the responses, my own lists seemed very incomplete. Just remembered Lily Tomlinson in "9 to 5"

Your chosen "Adonis" is very handsome.
