Thanksgiving Traditions

We found this gem... from from a blogger who calls himself Silverguy of the site MD Junction. I’d like to tell you more but that’s all I’ve got. That site is a Blogspot or Wordpress wannabe but it is more like you have Blogger logos all over your blog. I hope you had a terrific Thanksgiving. (We apologize to our international players for having questions about an American holiday.)

Time to toast!

Cheers to all of us thieves!

How many Thanksgivings do you attend?  Just the one.

Where do you attend Thanksgiving(s)?  At my mom and stepdad's place on the mountain.  Mom has taken over cooking for the holiday since my kids have grown up.

What is your favorite dish?  Corn spoonbread.

What is
your least favorite dish at Thanksgiving?  It wasn't a dish, just one of those little extras on the table, but this year it was the dilled brussels sprouts my mom had canned.

What, if any, are your Thanksgiving traditions?  Just watching the parade and football.

Name your FAV thing about Thanksgiving.  That it is low key, low pressure....the last moment of peace before all the hoopla of the Christmas season.

Do you make anything for Thanksgiving? If yes, share what and why.

Out of everything you eat at Thanksgiving, what can YOU cook the best? I don't do the cooking for Thanksgiving, but I can do a pretty good job at any of it.  My gravy, though, is excellent.

What do you drink with your Thanksgiving feast? I had Diet Coke and also cranberry wine mixed with ginger ale.

Has there ever been a feud during your Thanksgiving?  No.

Do you have Appetizers before your Thanksgiving meal?  I usually make something, but people don't seem to nibble like they used to.  Maybe because Mom has dinner on the table at promptly at noon.

How many people attend your Thanksgiving(s)? If yes, who?  Usually just the 6 of us....Mom, stepdad, my daughter and her fiancee, and my husband and I.  Next year our grandson will be with us.  My son and his family always spend the day with his in-laws.

Have you ever missed a Thanksgiving?  A couple of years ago my husband and I went away over Thanksgiving to celebrate our anniversary.  It was different.

What kind of pie/cake/dessert do you eat for dessert?  Pumpkin pie.

Do you ever play games at Thanksgiving?  We played dominoes this year, but yeah, we usually play something.

Name 3 things you are Thankful for:  You picked a bad day to ask.  I'm not proud of it, but I'm in a mood today and not feeling thankful at all.

Is there anyone who has normally attended Thanksgiving, that will not be there this year? Who?  No one.

Name the funniest person at your Thanksgiving this year and tell us more.  No one was funny.

Which person eats the MOST?  My stepdad.

Which person eats the LEAST?  This year it was my husband as he wasn't feeling well.

Do any animals attend Thanksgiving dinner?  We always take our two dogs and my mom's dog was always there, but she died this year.

If so, do they get Thanksgiving scraps? Yes, but maybe never again.  Our old hound "regifted" those scraps later in the day.

Who carves the turkey?  My stepdad.

Have you ever had to make Thanksgiving all on YOUR OWN?  Yes, back when my kids were little and the rest of the family hadn't moved so far away.  I cooked when it was normal to have 12-15 people for dinner.

Do you get along with the people you have thanksgiving with?  Well, yeah, it's my family.

Is your Thanksgiving formal, or do you just do whatever?  We are very nearly the polar opposite of formal.

  1. I hope your mood improves. Try a little chocolate. There isn't much that can't cure. ;-)

    1. That is normally what I'd do, but part of my mood has roots in my weight. I need to stop finding comfort in calories.

    1. You will love it. I've tried several different variations over the years but always come back to this one I got from my grandmother. It's definitely a cold weather comfort dish.

  4. I never did learn to make gravy, because I don't like it. I join the other well-wishes who hope your mood improves. Nothing worse than being in a bunch of revelers having a good time when you're feeling miserable. Been there, done that!

    1. Yes, I was a miserable person to be around yesterday when we were on a bus trip...to see a big Christmas light display. Fa-la-la...let me off the bus! That was me, but I am feeling much better this evening.

  5. The spoonbread is a really lovely recipe. So, thank you!
Sending you a very good vibes and a big hug for feeling better. I wish we could just fold distance and hold each other's hands when things hit.

Thank you for the well wishes...I am feeling a lot better this evening and have even begun unpacking all the Christmas decorations. It would be nice if we could do that folding distance thing. Very nice.
