Saturday 9: Fortune Faded

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Fortune Faded (2003)

... Because Janelle suggested The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) The song begins with a chess reference. Do you play chess?  No, I've never learned.  I used to want to, but not so much any more.

2) The lyric also mentions losing altitude. Often airline travelers complain that their ears pop as the plane loses altitude. When you fly, does this bother you? I can't say it's ever bothered me when flying, but we live in the mountains of southwest Pennsylvania and my ears pop all the time when I drive up a mountain.  Go figure.

3) Four of the original members attended the same school -- Fairfax High in Los Angeles. Fairfax High's mascot was The Lions. Do you remember what your school team (grade school, high school or college) was called?  We were the Trojans...and yes, among the high school crowd that evoked all the jokes you'd imagine it would.  It actually came second to the school name in the joke department.  It was Derry Area.  Don't get it? Remember your high school French and the name for your behind.

4) The band has appeared on The Simpsons. Which is your favorite character from the long-running Fox cartoon show?  Crusty the Clown.

5) Bass player Michael Balzary, or Flea, cofounded The Silverlake Conservatory of Music, a non-profit educational organization for under-privileged children. Share a memory from music class in school.  I really don't remember much, probably because I have no discernible talent for music. I do remember the music teacher from the private school I attended in 4th through 6th grades. She always brought her ancient, apricot-colored Poodle with her and she's the music teacher who declared me tone deaf.

6) The Red Hot Chili Peppers have played at massive outdoor festivals all over the world. Do you enjoy listening to concerts outside, under the sun or stars? Or do you prefer air conditioned indoor comfort?  Both have their charm.  I've done it all and enjoyed it all, but I have to say that as I've gotten older I'm not so crazy about being out on a hillside in 95 degree heat in the middle of 50,000 people who are all dripping sweat and drunk.

7) Red bell peppers are used in Giada De Laurentiis' popular Italian sausage, pepper and onion recipe. Would you prefer to have your portion served in a bowl or as a sandwich?  I'd prefer not to have it. I'm not really a fan of Italian sausage.

8) Red cayenne peppers are very hot. Do you enjoy spicy foods?  I've never liked super hot foods, but I do like a little bit of spice.

9) Random question: Are you a spender or a saver?  Unfortunately, I'm a spender.  I'm getting better, though.

  1. I'm with you on the concert venues, though they are still drunk and often sweaty inside as well. ;-)

    1. That's true. People can be gross no matter where they are.

    1. There are some nice ones. Look at Cook Twp. Mountains, not too far from 7 Springs or Ligonier and much cheaper than the 7 Springs area.

  5. I'm with you on #7. I saw that it was one of Giada's most popular "easy" recipes.I can't imagine people would eat that by choice!
