Moving Day, Books & Hornworms...Oh, My!

Happy Thursday, y'all!  This is my favorite day of the blogging week because it's the day I get to hook up with blogging buddy, Rebecca Jo @ Knit By God's Hand to count some blessings.  That's always a good thing, but it takes on even more significance this week due to something I learned in Bible study.

I already knew that prayer is a powerful good thing, but did you know that thankful prayer, prayer in which we pour out our heartfelt gratitude for all the Lord has done, is doing, and that we trust He will do, is the key that opens the gates for God's supernatural peace to flood into us?  Seriously.  Next time you are feeling anxious or sad or agitated or mad or whatever....Bless the Lord with your gratitude and see what happens!

Okay, on with the blessings!

This week I am thankful...

* that today's the day!  My hubby gave me the all-clear to start moving things into the room that was formerly our daughter's.  If you remember, it has beautiful pine paneling on the walls, but it needed to be sealed. (Note-painting an entire room with polyurethane when it's too hot to open windows is not the best idea.)  I am excited.

Here's the room:

And here are some of the books that have to be moved:

* for a really nice day with my mom last Saturday.  My husband is still using my car, so Mom picked me up for the preview day of the library's used book sale (yes, I got more books).

They aren't all for me.  I got a cookbook for my daughter,
a book of sewing patterns for my d-i-l, and several kids' books.
Oh, and three or four trivia books....the kind certain people like
to read in the throne room.
After the book sale we stopped at a couple of yard sales and then had lunch.

* that God showed me the hornworms on my tomato plants Tuesday evening...in the dark.  Well, the porch light was on since I was taking the dogs out and I looked over at my tomatoes, as I tend to do every time I go in or out, and I just thought something looked "wrong."  I got a flashlight to see better and was horrified to see a couple of these greedy guys:

They really do blend in so it was a miracle I saw them at night, but I am so glad I did.  They can decimate a plant in a day.  My plants have now been sprayed to, I hope, prevent more unwanted visitors.  I'm still pretty nervous, though, and thoroughly inspect the plants every time I walk out the door.

* for gallons of fresh blueberries...even if I did have to pick them myself in this heat.  So yummy!

* for fresh, sweet, corn-on-the-cob.  M-mmm....so many ways to cook it, so many ways to flavor it....butter, mayo, salt, pepper, fire-roasted and spicy, grilled, herbed...  I think I need to buy some corn for dinner.

* for the little wild bunny who lives in our yard.  Okay, we have several wild bunnies, but I've only seen the one baby.  I call him Bugs.  He is a stinker.  One day I went out to find him sitting on the steps up onto the deck, peering up over the top at me.  I've never seen or heard of a wild rabbit trying to come up on anyone's porch.  He likes to stay just out of the dogs' reach and munch away, seemingly oblivious to their barking.  Then, what tickles me most, is how he will hide in a high patch of grass or in a bunch of lilies until the dogs (or me) are right on top of him then he will dart out right under their noses and scare them half to death.  He drives the puppies nuts!

* for professional pedicures...cause I just hate doing that.

That's all I have time for today.  All those books are waiting for me.  Enjoy your day and may the rest of your week be blessed!

  1. I so love your opener... I think in this crazy world, we really need to make the choice to look for things to be thankful for - when we're so abundantly blessed especially!!!

Those worms... EEEEKKKKKK!!!! How crazy how well they blend in!

Good luck on that move from room to room. That's a lot of tough work. But I love a fresh start in a room - like a new beginning.

& always you'll get a thumbs up from me on new books :)

  2. Giving thanks in all circumstances....not an easy thing to do, is it. I learned a lesson about being thankful in the early days of my husband's 25 months of unemployment. I will be blogging about that soon.

Can you ever have too many books? I think not. My husband, however, disagrees, as we've moved several times, and books are heavy. When you are paying for the truck by the weight, those books add up to a pretty penny.

Your bunny sounds sweet. I love bunnies. I don't see them very often here, though.

Blueberries, fresh corn, a pedicure...I'm with you on the joy in all those things.

    Have a great day,
    Patti

  4. That is a nasty looking worm/bug! Yikes! You sure have a bunch of books! I did too, at one time. When I got my Kindle, the books were donated to an assisted living community (except for my art books and a few other specialty books). I have over 400 books on my Kindle now and am happy to just carry it around with me - no dusting or sorting anymore! Your library room will look great when you get everything moved it. Can't wait to see it!!
